What is sensory play?

Sensory play is any activity that stimulates a young child's senses of touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing. This also includes engagement of movement and balance.  You may have heard of sensory play in affiliation with autistic kids, but the reality is every child should be affiliated with sensory play.  I have tried several play activities with my son, Amir and I plan to do it with my 2 month old as well.  So why sensory play?  The benefits are a big deal!!!  Here is why.

1.  It helps build cognitive development

2.  Children tend to apply a scientific approach to playing unknowingly.  These activities support children to use the ‘scientific method’ of observing, forming a hypothesis, experimenting, and making conclusions

3.  It supports language development

4.  It encourages development of motor skills

5.  It builds nerve connection in the brain

I told y'all!  It's a big deal right?  The earlier we start, the better!  Who is all in?  If so, comment below!  My next post will include sensory play activities for all ages.  Also, if you know of any good sensory play activities, please share below! Thank you!
